Picture of the day
Theme: Postindustrial beauty

Practically all the major technological changes since the beginning of industrialization have resulted in unforeseen consequences... Our very power over nature threatens to become itself a source of power that is out of control... Choices posted are too large, too complex, too important and comprehensive to be safely left to fallible human beings

  2. Hello Dear Acha,
Could you please explain the first statement
"Knowledge is theory". It seems to be quite interesting!
I read a defenition by Betrand Ruseel:
"knowledge might be defined as belief which is in agreement with the facts. The trouble is that no one knows what a belief is, no one knows what a fact is, and no one knows what sort of agreement between them would make a belief true".

  4. Hallo dear Semmasen,
A theory is an analytical tool used for understanding, explaining and making predictions about some content. It is an analytic structure which will help us to explore our stock of information and to make assertions about the underlying reality. Knowledge, in its practical sense, is also used for understanding of a subject with the ability to use it for a specific purpose. So we can say, in its narrow sense, that knowlege is theory.
The definition of Bertrand Russell, (I think), is nothing but a simple elaboration of the definition of Plato, ie „Knowledge is justified ture belief“. This definition remembers us that in order to count a statement as knowledge, it has to fulfil atleast three criteria, namely, it must be justified, true and believed. It is quite clear that over concentration on „belief“, neglecting the rest of two criteria, will lead us in to a great confusion and to a falsification.

  6. Great!.All though it made me even more confused, its indeed a good exposition on "How Knowledge became a theorem".
In Christian theology, the tree of knowledge is connected to the doctrine of original sin,
Where as in this context TREE of KNOWLEDGE is also called TREE of LIFE.
In this regard Knowledge is a good theoretical base for life and human inclination towards sin.
    Thus,Knowledge becomes a theorem of life. :) :)

  7. Mashe,
appo namme verude vidan plan illa alle?? hm,, haha.

In the Bible and in our Christian Theology, the term 'knowledge' has a connection with the doctrine of Original sin, but its context and usage is very different and must be explained.

Gordon and Rendsburg have suggested that the phrase טוֹב וָרָע, translated good and evil, is a merism. This is a figure of speech whereby a pair of opposites are used together to create the meaning all or everything, as in the English phrase, "they searched high and low", meaning that they searched everywhere. So the tree of the knowledge of good and evil they take to mean the tree of all knowledge. This meaning can be brought out by the alternative translations tree of the knowledge of good and of evil (the word of not being expressed in the Hebrew) or tree of knowledge, both good and evil. The phrase occurs twice as applied to the tree, Genesis 2:9, Genesis 2:17. It also occurs twice as describing the knowledge gained Genesis 3:5 and Genesis 3:22 where it may be translated perhaps with knowledge, both good and evil.

Please also remember that Wisdom and Knowledge is related in the Bible as different Concepts. Knowledge is not at all a negative concept as per our Chritian Theology, but consider it as the gifts of the Holy Ghost such as wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, fortitude, reverence, and fear of the Lord. Aquinas says that four of these gifts (wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and counsel) direct the intellect, while the other three gifts (fortitude, reverence, and fear of the Lord or wonder and awe) direct the will toward God.
    :)
