What is Love and What is Marriage?

A student asked a teacher, "what is Love?"

The teacher said, "in order to answer your question, go to the wheat

field and choose the biggest wheat and come back.

But the rule is:  you can  go through them only once  & cannot turn back to pick."

The student went to the field, go thru first row, he saw one big wheat,

but he wonders....may be there is a bigger one later.

Then he saw another bigger one... but may be there is an even bigger

one waiting for him.

Later, when he finished more than half of the wheat field, he starts to

realise that the wheat is not as big as the previous one he saw, he

knew he has missed the biggest one, and he regretted.

So, he ended up went back to the teacher with empty hand. The teacher

told him, "...this is love... you keep looking for better ones, but

when later you realise, you have already missed the person ...."

  "What is Marriage then?" the student asked:

The teacher said, "in order to answer your question, go to the corn

field and choose the biggest corn and come back. But the rule is: you

can go through them only once and cannot turn back to pick."

The student went to the corn field, this time he is careful not to

repeat the previous mistake, when he reach the middle of the field, he

has picked one medium sized corn that he felt satisfied, 

and came back to the teacher.

The teacher told him, "this time you bring back a corn.... you look for

one that is just nice, and you have faith and believe this is the best

one you get.... this is marriage.

St. Mary’s MSO Youth Association, Vienna elected new committee for 2010-11

St. Mary’s MSO Youth Association, Vienna, Austria elected their new Committee for the year 2010 at its Annual General Body Meeting held at Vienna St. Mary's MSO Church on Sunday, 7 February 2010. The General Body commenced at 3.00 PM with prayer. Rev. Fr. Biju Parekkattil, President of the Youth Association, chaired the meeting and pointed out the important achievements of the Youth Association during last year and highlighted the great Graces of God that the Vienna Unit experienced throughout the year. He also thanked the association members and the committee members for their hard work and support. After the Secretary’s report and financial statement of the treasurer, the elections were held unanimously for the ensuing year 2010-11. Mr. Soja CHELAPPURATHU JOSE is elected as the Vice President, Mr. Subin POOMKOTTAYIL as the Secretary and Mr. Pradeep PAULOSE as the Treasurer. Mr. Binu MARKOSE and Mr. Steffy THADATHIL are elected as the committee members thereafter. Later on, the General Body had detailed discussions on all agenda items and necessary decisions were taken.

1. They are always late. They would miss all the flights.

World Cancer Day - 4 February 2010

Cancer is a leading cause of death around the world. WHO estimates that 84 million people will die of cancer between 2005 and 2015 without intervention. Each year on 4 February, WHO supports International Union Against Cancer to promote ways to ease the global burden of cancer. Preventing cancer and raising quality of life for cancer patients are recurring themes.

This year's theme, “Cancer can be prevented too”, focusses on simple measures to prevent cancer such as:

•  No tobacco use
•  A healthy diet and regular exercise
•  Limited alcohol use
•  Protection against cancer-causing infections.

The Seventh Meeting of the International Joint Commission for Theological Dialogue

The Seventh Meeting of the International Joint Commission for Theological Dialogue Between the Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches Antelias, Lebanon, January 27 to 31, 2010

The seventh meeting of the International Joint Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches took place at the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia in Antelias, Lebanon, from January 27 to 31, 2010.  The meeting was graciously hosted by His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia. It was chaired jointly by His Eminence Cardinal Walter Kasper, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, and His Eminence Metropolitan Bishoy of Damiette, General Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church.  H.G Dr. Kuriakose Theophilose, Metropolitan of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Theological Seminary and President of the Ecumenical Secretariat of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church in India, and Patriarchal Vicar of Middle Europe participated in the ecumenical meeting as the delegate of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church.

Joining delegates from the Catholic Church were representatives of the following Oriental Orthodox Churches: the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Syrian Orthodox Church, the Armenian Apostolic Church (Catholicosate of All Armenians), the Armenian Apostolic Church (Holy See of Cilicia),  the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church, and the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.  No representative of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church was able to attend. 

The two delegations met separately on January 27, and held plenary sessions each day from January 28 to January 30.  Each day of the plenary sessions began with a common celebration of Morning Prayer.  At its initial session, the members of the Joint Commission considered reactions to and evaluations of the agreed statement that it had issued one year earlier, “Nature, Constitution and Mission of the Church.”  This document had been approved for publication by the Joint Commission and is now being considered by the authorities of their churches.

New Bishop for Monastic Movements of the MJSOC

The Malankara  Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church consecrated Very Rev.Geevarghese Thengumtharayil Ramaban with the name “Mor Barnabase Geevarghese”  today (on 1st February, 2010) at the pious and auspicious  ceremony held at the St.Athanasius Cathedral in Puthenkuris. His Beatitude Mor Baselios Thomas I Catholicose was the chief celebrant, and who was assisted by the other   bishops  from Malankara.  H.G. Geevarghese Mor Barnabas Metropolitan has been working as the Church Managing Committee Member, Director of Mor Gregorian Centre, Keekkozhur, Superior of St. Antony's Mount Moriya Ashram, Ranni. His Grace Mor Barnabas Metropolitan will be in charge of the Monastic Movements of the Church. The day started at the St. Athanasius Cathedral with the morning worship commencing at 7.30 am and  holy Qurbono at 8.30 a.m. Earlier the four-hour-long ordination process got under way with the ceremonial procession carrying the bishops designates to the Madbho. This was followed by the reading of the Patriarchal Bull, declaring the elevation of the bishop-designate, for the Monastic Movement of Malankara Jacobite Church. With this ordination, the total number of bishops of Indian origin in the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church has increased to 31. The religious ceremonies were followed by a public reception for the new bishop. Leading personalities from all walks of life including Honarable Minister Jose Thettayil, , Mr.Dhanapalan M.P,  Mr. T U Kurivilla, T.H.Musthapha M LA, Mr. Babu Paul (Muvattupuzha), Mr. M M Monayi  MLA (Ayyampilly), KPCC spokesman Mr. P P Thankachen and others were present on the occasion.

Pastoral message of the month - February 2010

നോമ്പ് ക്ഷമിക്കുന്നവന്റ്റെ ഉത്സവം

ഒരു പളളിയുടെ ആത്മീയപ്രസ്ഥാനത്തില് സജീവമായി പ്രവറ്ത്തിച്ചിരുന്ന ഒരു ബാലന് താന് ഏറെ സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്ന തന്റ്റെ വികാരിയച്ചനുമായി ഒരിക്കല് ചില കാര്യങ്ങളുടെ പേരില് പിണങ്ങേണ്ട സാഹചര്മുണ്ടായി. യഥാറ്ത്ഥത്തില് ആ പിണക്കം എന്തിനുവേണ്ടിയാണെന്നു പോലും ഒരുവേള അവനു അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു. എന്നിരിക്കിലും അത് അവനു സമ്മാനിച്ചത് ദുഃഖത്തിന്റ്റെ നാളുകളാണ്. തന്റ്റെ തെറ്റുകള് തിരുത്തുക എന്ന തീരുമാനത്തോടെ അവന് ആ വൈദികന്റ്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു കടന്നു ചെന്ന് പല ആവറ്ത്തി ക്ഷമ ചോദിക്കുകയും അതിന് അവനോട് ക്ഷമിച്ചുവെന്ന് വൈദികനില് നിന്നു മറുപടി ലഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. എന്നാല് ഏഴ്എഴുപതുവട്ടം ക്ഷമിക്കുവാന് ബാദ്ധ്യസ്ഥനായ ആ വൈദികന് ക്ഷമയെന്ന വാക്ക് കഷ്ടിച്ച് ഉച്ചരിച്ചതല്ലാതെ അവനോടുളള പെരുമാറ്റത്തില് യാതോരു മാറ്റവും വരുത്തിയില്ല. പരസ്പരം ഒന്നിക്കുന്ന പൊതുവേദികളില് പോലും അവഗണിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതായി തിരിച്ചറഞ്ഞ  അവന് അതീവ ദുഃഖിതനായി മാറിയെന്നു മാത്രമല്ല, അവന്റ്റെ ഉളളില് കനലുപോലെ കത്തിനിന്ന അദ്ധ്യാത്മീകതപോലും മങ്ങുവാനും തുടങ്ങി. എന്തിനുമേതിനും വികാരിയച്ചനുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടുകൊണ്ടിരുന്ന അവന് കുമ്പസാരിക്കാന് പോലും വിമുഖത കാണിക്കുന്ന അവസ്ഥയിലുമായി.................

ഈ കഥ അദ്ധ്യാത്മീകതയുടെ അറ്ത്ഥം നഷ്ടപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന കാപട്യത്തിലൂന്നിയതും അലസത നിറഞ്ഞതുമായ ദൈവഭക്തിക്ക് ഒരു കൈചൂണ്ടിയാകുന്നില്ലേ....???? ലൌകീകതയില് മുഴുകി ജീവിക്കുന്ന അവസ്ഥയിലേക്കും ക്രൈസ്തവ സമൂഹത്തില് അപഹാസ്യനാക്കി ആ ചെറുപ്പക്കാരനെ മാറ്റുന്നതിലേക്കും മാത്രമേ ആ പുരോഹിതന്റ്റെ പ്രവറ്ത്തനംകൊണ്ടായുളളു. ഈ അനുഭവം നമുക്കു വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്  തന്റ്റെ വിളിമറന്ന ആ പുരോഹിതന്റ്റെ ചിത്രമാണ്. ഇത് ഒരു ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ട കാഴ്ചയല്ല, മറിച്ച് പലതരത്തിലും പലവിധത്തിലും മനുഷ്യോത്ഭവം മുതല് ഭൂമുഖത്ത് ആവറ്ത്തുക്കുന്ന, ദൈവികമാറ്ഗ്ഗത്തിന്റ്റെ ശോഭയെ കെടുത്തുന്ന, ഒരു നിത്യദുരന്തനാടകമാണത്. ഈ പതിതാവസ്ഥയോടു യെശയ്യാ പ്രവാചകനീലൂടെ ദൈവം പ്രതികരിക്കുന്നതു നോക്കുക.  (യെശയ്യാവ് 48:4 -14)

4. നിങ്ങള്‍വിവാദത്തിന്നും കലഹത്തിന്നും ക്രൂരമുഷ്ടികൊണ്ടു അടിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും നോന്പു നോല്ക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങളുടെ പ്രാര്‍‍ത്ഥന ഉയരത്തില്‍ കേള്‍പ്പാന്‍തക്കവണ്ണമല്ല നിങ്ങള്‍ഇന്നു നോമ്പു നോല്‍ക്കുന്നതു

5. എനിക്കു ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള നോമ്പും മനുഷ്യന്‍ആത്മതപനം ചെയ്യുന്ന ദിവസവും ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ളതോ? തലയെ വേഴത്തെപ്പോലെ കുനിയിക്കുക, രട്ടും വെണ്ണീരും വിരിച്ചു കിടക്കുക, ഇതാകുന്നുവോ ഉപവാസം? ഇതിന്നോ നീ നോമ്പെന്നും യഹോവേക്കു പ്രസാദമുള്ള ദിവസമെന്നും പേര്‍‍പറയുന്നതു? 

6. അന്യായബന്‍ധനങ്ങളെ അഴിക്കുക; നുകത്തിന്റെ അമിക്കയറുകളെ അഴിക്കുക; പീഡിതരെ സ്വതന്ത്രരായി വിട്ടയക്കുക; എല്ലാ നുകത്തെയും തകര്‍‍ക്കുക; ഇതല്ലയോ എനിക്കു ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള ഉപവാസം? 

7. വിശപ്പുള്ളവന്നു നിന്റ്റെ അപ്പം നുറുക്കിക്കൊടുക്കുന്നതും അലഞ്ഞുനടക്കുന്ന സാധുക്കളെ നിന്റെ വീട്ടില്‍ചേര്‍ത്തുകൊള്ളുന്നതും നഗ്നനെ കണ്ടാല്‍അവനെ ഉടുപ്പിക്കുന്നതും നിന്റെ മാംസരക്തങ്ങളായിരിക്കുന്നവര്‍‍ക്കു നിന്നെത്തന്നേ മറെക്കാതെയിരിക്കുന്നതും അല്ലയോ? 

8. അപ്പോള്‍നിന്റെ വെളിച്ചം ഉഷസ്സുപോലെ പ്രകാശിക്കും; നിന്റെ മുറിവുകള്‍ക്കു വേഗത്തില്‍പൊറുതിവരും; നിന്റെ നീതി നിനക്കു മുന്‍പായി നടക്കും; യഹോവയുടെ മഹത്വം നിന്റെ പിന്‍പട ആയിരിക്കും

9. അപ്പോള്‍നീ വിളിക്കും; യഹോവ ഉത്തരം അരുളും; നീ നിലവിളിക്കും, ഞാന്‍വരുന്നു എന്നു അവന്‍ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യും; നുകവും വിരല്‍ചൂണ്ടുന്നതും വഷളത്വം സംസാരിക്കുന്നതും നീ നിന്റെ നടുവില്‍നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളകയും

10. വിശപ്പുള്ളവനോടു നീ താല്പര്യം  കാണിക്കയും കഷ്ടത്തില്‍ഇരിക്കുന്നവന്നു തൃപ്തിവരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുമെങ്കില്‍നിന്റെ പ്രകാശം ഇരുളില്‍ഉദിക്കും; നിന്റെ അന്‍ധകാരം മദ്ധ്യാഹ്നം പോലെയാകും

11. യഹോവ നിന്നെ എല്ലയ്പോഴും നടത്തുകയും വരണ്ടനിലത്തിലും നിന്റെ വിശപ്പു അടക്കി, നിന്റെ അസ്ഥികളെ ബലപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യും; നീ നനവുള്ള തോട്ടംപോലെയും വെള്ളം വറ്റിപ്പോകാത്ത നീരുറവുപോലെയും ആകും

12. നിന്റെ സന്തതി പുരാതനശൂന്യങ്ങളെ പണിയും; തലമുറതലമുറയായി കിടക്കുന്ന അടിസ്ഥാനങ്ങളെ നീ കെട്ടിപ്പൊക്കും; കേടുതീര്‍‍ക്കുന്നവനെന്നും കുടിയിരിപ്പാന്‍ ‍തക്കവണ്ണം പാതകളെ യഥാസ്ഥാനത്താക്കുന്നവനെന്നും നിനക്കു പേര്‍‍പറയും

13. നീ എന്റെ വിശുദ്ധദിവസത്തില്‍നിന്റെ കാര്യാദികള്‍നോക്കാതെ ശബ്ബത്തില്‍നിന്റെ കാല്‍അടക്കിവെച്ചു, ശബ്ബത്തിനെ ഒരു സന്തോഷം എന്നും യഹോവയുടെ വിശുദ്ധദിവസത്തെ ബഹുമാനയോഗ്യം എന്നും പറകയും നിന്റെ വേലെക്കു പോകയോ നിന്റെ കാര്യാദികളെ നോക്കുകയോ വ്യര്‍‍ത്ഥസംസാരത്തില്‍നേരം പോക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യാതവണ്ണം അതിനെ ബഹുമാനിക്കയും ചെയ്യുമെങ്കില്‍, നീ യഹോവയില്‍പ്രമോദിക്കും; 

14. ഞാന്‍നിന്നെ ദേശത്തിലെ ഉന്നതങ്ങളില്‍വാഹനമേറ്റി ഓടുമാറാക്കുകയും നിന്റെ പിതാവായ യാക്കോബിന്റെ അവകാശംകൊണ്ടു നിന്നെ പോഷിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്യും; യഹോവയുടെ വായല്ലോ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നതു

നോമ്പിന്റ്റെ ദൈവാലയത്തിലേക്ക് കാലെടുത്തു വയ്ക്കുന്നവറ് പാപത്തിന്റ്റെയും മുന് വിധികളുടെയും പാദരക്ഷകള് പുറത്തഴിച്ചു വയ്ക്കണമെന്ന് അറിയാത്തവരായി ആരാണുളളത്? . സംതൃപ്തമല്ലാത്ത മനസിന്റ്റെ കടിഞ്ഞാണില്ലാത്ത പരക്കം പാച്ചിലിനിടയിലുണ്ടാകുന്ന വേലിയേറ്റത്തിന്റ്റെ പരിണിതഫലങ്ങളാണ്  പലറ്ക്കും വേദനകള് സമ്മാനിക്കുന്നത്. ദൈവികവചനം വീശുന്ന വെളിച്ചത്തില് ആരാധനയുടെ വഴിയിലൂടെ ക്രിസ്തുവിലേക്കു നടന്നടുക്കുന്നവറ്ക്ക് തങ്ങളുടെ ജീവിതത്തിലു മാത്രമല്ല, തനിക്കു ചുറ്റുമുളളവറ്ക്കും ആശ്വാസവും വിമോചനവും രക്ഷയും പ്രഥാനം ചെയ്യുവാന് ആവുംമെന്ന് മുകളിലുദ്ധരിച്ച വചനത്തില് നമുക്കു കാണാം.

ബലഹീനന്റ്റെ സ്വപ്നങ്ങള്ക്കു നിറക്കൂട്ടു പകരുവാന് സാധിച്ചില്ലങ്കിലും നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതം അപരനെ അന്ധകാരത്തിലേക്കു തളളിയിടുന്നതായിരിക്കരുത്. വറുമയുടെ വറചട്ടിയില് വറുത്തെടുത്തവന്റ്റെ ചാപല്യങ്ങളെ നിറഞ്ഞമനസോടെ ക്ഷമിച്ച് പവിത്രവും പരിപാവനവുമായ ഈ നോമ്പിനെ വരവേല്ക്കുക. ദൈവമനുഷ്യ, മനുഷ്യമനുഷ്യബന്ധങ്ങളുടെ വിശുദ്ധ പ്രണയത്തിന്റ്റെ നിറ്മ്മലഫലങ്ങളെ പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കുവാന് ഈ നോമ്പും നമ്മെ വിളിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

എന്നാല് അന്ധരായവരെ നേറ്വഴിക്കു നയിക്കുവാന് വിളിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരുടെ കണ്ണുകളില് തിമിരം നിറഞ്ഞതുപോലെയാണ് ലോകത്തിനു പ്രകാശമാകേണ്ട നമ്മളില് അന്ധകാരത്തിന്റ്റെ പ്രവറ്ത്തികള് നിറയുന്നത്. ക്ഷമയും സ്നേഹവും മറക്കുകയെന്നാല്, നാം ക്രൈസ്തവാദ്ധ്യാത്മീകതയുടെ ബാലപാടങ്ങള് പോലും മറക്കുകയെന്നാണ് അറ്ത്ഥം. സത്കറ്മ്മം ചെയ്യുന്നവന്റ്റെ കരുത്തായ നോമ്പുകള് നന്മനിറഞ്ഞവന്റ്റെ മനസിനുമാത്രമേ വിശുദ്ധിയുടെ വിരുന്നൊരുക്കുകയുളളു. ആ ആന്തരീകോത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുവാന് വലിയനോമ്പിലുടെ ഒരുങ്ങുന്നവരായ നാം അനുരഞ്ജനത്തിന്റ്റെ തിരിനാളങ്ങള് തെളിക്കുവാന് മറന്നുപോകരുത്. വ്രതശുദ്ധിയുടെ നാളുകള് സഹോദരനിലേക്കു തിരിയാനുളള കരുണയുടെ വാതിലുകളാണെന്നു നാം മറക്കാതിരിക്കുക. വാക്കുകളുടെ വയലില് വിളവെടുക്കുമ്പോള് പലപ്പോഴും പതിരുകള് സോഭാവികമാണ്. കറ്ഷകന് പതിരുകളില്നിന്ന് വിത്തുകള് സമാഹരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തിലും മറ്റുളളവരില് നിന്നു നമുക്കുണ്ടായ നന്മയുടെയും തിന്മയുടെയും അനുഭവങ്ങളില് നിന്ന് നന്മയുടെ ഓറ്മ്മകളെ മാത്രം ഹൃദയത്തില് സൂക്ഷിച്ചുവെക്കാനും തിക്താനുഭവങ്ങളുടെ പതിരുകളെ നിത്യമറവിയുടെ അഗ്നിക്കു വിട്ടുകൊടുക്കുവാനും തയാറാകണം. നോമ്പവസരങ്ങള് സ്വറ്ഗ്ഗീയവിത്തു വിതക്കുന്നതിനും വിശുദ്ധിയുടെ ഫലങ്ങള് കൊയ്യുന്നതിനുമുളള അവസരമാണ്.   നോമ്പിലൂടെ നമ്മില് നിറയേണ്ടത് യഥാറ്ത്ഥവും കളങ്കമില്ലാത്തതുമായ ക്ഷമയും സ്നേഹവുമാണ്.  അപരനോടു ക്ഷമിക്കുമ്പോള് അത് നമ്മുടെ ഉളളില് തന്നെ വിശുദ്ധിയുടെ ഒരു വിരുന്നൊരുക്കുന്നുവെന്നു മാത്രമല്ല, അപരനെ അവാച്യമായ ദൈവികാനന്ദത്തിന്റ്റെ അതിരുകളില്ലാത്ത ലോകത്തിലേക്കു വഴിനടത്തുന്ന യഥാറ്ത്ഥ ക്രിസ്തുശിഷ്യരായി മാറാനും, അതുവഴി വറ്ണ്ണനാധീതമായ ദൈവികാനുഗ്രഹങ്ങള്ക്ക് ഓഹരിക്കാരാകുവാനും നമുക്കു കഴിയുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്.

കാലത്തിന്റ്റെ കുത്തൊഴുക്കില് പെട്ട് വിശുദ്ധ ബന്ധത്തിന്റ്റെ ബാലപാടങ്ങള് മറന്ന് ഇരുളിന്റ്റെ നീരാളിഹസ്തങ്ങളിലാണോ നാം ഇപ്പോഴെന്ന് സ്വയം ശോദന ചെയ്യുക. അല്ലെങ്കില് ഈ നോമ്പും നമുക്ക് പുണ്യങ്ങളുടെ ആശീറ്വാദമേകാത്ത ഒരു പ്രഹസനോത്സവമായി അധപതിക്കും. ദരിദ്രവും ശുഷ്കവും വിരൂപവും മലിനവും ദുഃഖസാന്ദ്രവുമായ നിലപാടുകളോട് വിടപറയുവാനും, വിശുദ്ധിയുടെ സുകൃതങ്ങളുടെ വിരുന്നൊരുക്കുന്ന ക്ഷമയുടെ ഉത്സവകാലത്തിലേക്കു പ്രവേശിക്കുവാനും ഈ നോമ്പുകാലം നമുക്കു വഴിയൊരുക്കട്ടെയെന്ന് ഹൃദയപൂറ്വ്വം ആശംസിക്കുന്നു.
